Gyta53 Armored Fiber Optic Cable
Product Description
The Gyta53 Armored Fiber Optic Cable is a below-ground outdoor fiber line built for routes where the cable will stay buried or run through conduit across its whole working life. Engineers reach for it when a standard non-armoured line would be at risk from ground load, dig-in, or wildlife. Its standout trait is the guarding layer: a corrugated aluminium tape wrapped over the fiber bundle, rather than the steel strip found on GYTS53 versions. That one material swap changes the cable's mass, how it copes with wet or chemical earth, and how it behaves beside electrical plant.
The fibers travel inside jelly-packed loose tubes, each tube flooded with a blocking gel and stranded around a central strength member. A corrugated aluminium tape covers this group, and a UV-stable black polyethylene casing forms the outer skin. The corrugated shape also lets the tape flex while bending, so the line stays easy to handle even with armour present. The outcome is a cable that shrugs off crushing and animal damage yet weighs clearly less than a steel-guarded equivalent.
We stock it mainly as single-mode OS2, and multimode types can be made to order. Each build is moisture-sealed and cleared for buried and duct use. It is the sensible pick wherever steel armour would only add weight, rust, or stray magnetism.
Product Applications
Coastal and tidal burial routes - On harbour approaches, beach crossings, or brackish ground, aluminium's stable oxide skin resists saltwater far better than steel ever could.
Chemical and industrial plant grounds - Harsh, mineral-heavy soil that eats through steel leaves an aluminium-specified line in much better condition over the years.
Substation, railway, and high-voltage corridors - With no magnetism in the armour, the cable runs next to power lines and electrified track free of induced currents or interference.
City duct and manhole networks - The lighter body pulls through packed conduits with less load on crews and gear.
Campus and enterprise inter-building backbones - A quiet, rust-proof link that is simple to route building to building.
Remote and access-limited sites - Lower mass means smaller reels and easier hand-carry where vehicles cannot reach.
Product Advantages
Reduced weight - Aluminium armour cuts per-metre mass, lowering freight loads and easing on-site handling.
Strong corrosion resistance - Holds up in damp, salty, or chemically active earth where steel would break down.
Non-magnetic build - Safe to lay beside power and rail assets with zero magnetic coupling.
Rodent and crush shielding - The corrugated tape protects the fiber heart from bites and soil load.
Full moisture sealing - Filled tubes stop water moving along the cable's length.
Quick, clean installation - Flexible and pull-friendly for burial and conduit alike, with a compact reel footprint that suits tight storage yards.

FAQ
Q1: Aluminium or steel armour - which should I specify?
Go aluminium (GYTA53) when weight, corrosion, or magnetic factors drive your site, such as coastlines, chemical zones, or power-adjacent paths. Choose steel armour when maximum crush strength in rocky terrain is the chief priority. If unsure, weigh the dominant threat at the site - moisture and magnets point to aluminium, raw crush load points to steel.
Q2: Why is aluminium the better fit for saltwater and coastal soil?
Steel armour rusts slowly in saline ground and eventually loses its guard. Aluminium grows a self-sealing oxide film that fights saltwater attack, so the armour stays sound much longer by the sea.
Q3: What does "non-magnetic" mean in practice on site?
It means the armour neither catches nor makes magnetic fields. You can lay the cable parallel to substations, railways, and transmission lines without fear of induced current, heating, or signal noise.
Q4: Does the lighter weight really help with shipping?
It does. The aluminium type is lighter per reel, which trims freight cost and makes unloading, staging, and hand-pulling easier - a real plus on remote or hard-to-reach sites.
Q5: How do I store the cable before laying it, and how long will it last in storage?
Keep reels lying flat, off the floor, in a dry shaded spot, and leave the factory wrap sealed until lay day. Keep the polyethylene casing out of prolonged sun. Stored this way, the cable stays ready to install for several years; check the production date before use.
