The ASU (All-Dielectric Self-Supporting Unitube) Outdoor Fiber Optic Cable is a compact, lightweight aerial solution engineered for short-to-medium span installations. As a variant of the Mini ADSS concept, it is designed to be suspended directly between utility poles without the need for a separate messenger wire, making it an ideal choice for FTTH (Fiber to the Home) access networks, 5G small-cell backhaul, and urban/suburban overhead deployments .
Structural Design
The cable features a unitube structure where 2 to 24 colored optical fibers (typically G.652D or G.657A2 single-mode) are placed within a loose tube made of high-modulus PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) . This tube is filled with a water-blocking gel or water-swellable yarn to prevent moisture ingress . The core strength is provided by two parallel FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) rods positioned on either side, which handle tensile loads without the use of metal, ensuring a completely non-metallic construction . Finally, the cable is sheathed with a black UV- and moisture-resistant PE (Polyethylene) jacket, available with optional Anti-Tracking (AT) material for enhanced electrical safety near power lines .
